SUE LANCASTER
Textiles teacher
I have my own studio where I make my own machine embroidered textiles for sale and exhibition, and also teach others various textile skills. From September 2008 my 'Stitched Up and Fleeced' Studio will be a micro-centre for City and Guilds courses in Textile Crafts. I have taught all ages and skill levels from nursery age through secondary and upwards, presently teaching part-time at Chesterfield College, Derbyshire.
Educational history
Experience
Harding House Gallery, Lincoln
I was a member of this artists' cooperative for 4 years, only leaving in order to develop my studio as the centre of my work. I still sell my work in the Gallery on Steep Hill, Lincoln.
Art Through Textiles
I have been an active member of this Sheffield group of 90 members. We meet monthly, share knowledge and exhibit together. I have been a long standing member of the committee.
Private Teaching
Embroidery Craft and Design
I travel to hold workshops for interested groups in their own venue. These workshops can be based on various aspects of my own work, such as drawing from observation and design development to sampling machine embroidery techniques, and making small items in machine embroidery. A popular workshop I run is called 'Design- a game of chance' in which we journey through the design development process using a number of methods to remove the anxiety of decision making and 'go with the flow'. This has proved to be great fun and has resulted in some amazing designs.
'Stitched Up and Fleeced' Studio
My studio is a dedicated textiles workshop. I offer tuition in this large workshop for all sorts of textiles including embroidery, dyeing, printing, felt making, fashion and stage costume making.
Classes can be for leisure or, from September 2008, for City and Guilds qualifications.
I have a programme of 'drop-in' sessions for leisure interest where students do not have to attend every week.
City and Guilds Courses will require regular weekly attendance, roughly following normal education terms starting in September and finishing in June. Some courses last for one year and the more advanced courses last 2 years each.
THE SMALL PRINT
Individual's fees for workshops are payable in advance. These workshops go ahead based on the number of students enrolled therefore money will only be refunded if a replacement is found. Money will be refunded if a workshop does not take place. Money will not be refunded for non-attendance.
City and Guilds Courses will be charged as an annual fee which includes C&G registration and exam fees.
